Attendees of Rentsys Recovery’s education seminar participated in three sessions on business continuity followed by tours of a Mobile Recovery Center and Business Recovery Center.
College Station, TX – July 10, 2012 – Rentsys Recovery Services, a leading provider of network-neutral data centers and disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, hosted its First Annual Education Seminar & Open House on Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The event showcased Rentsys Recovery’s recently upgraded data center facility in Billerica, MA and promoted awareness of the importance of business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning.
Through a series of presentations by Rentsys Recovery clients and business continuity experts, the seminar addressed both real-life business continuity experiences and principles to consider when creating a contingency plan. Attendees included executive-level professionals and business continuity planners from public and private sector organizations in the Boston area.
"We couldn’t have hoped for a better response to the event," said Rentsys Recovery Managing Director Walt Thomasson. "In fact, many of our attendees mentioned that we were going to have a hard time topping the event next year. We hope the seminar impressed upon them how important it is to have an effective business continuity plan in place and how our services can help their businesses prepare for business disruptions."
The seminar incorporated principles of BC/DR planning as well as applications of those plans. Bill Arnold, CIO for Service Credit Union, spoke on his experience with recovering a local branch of the credit union after it was destroyed by a fire. In a similar vein, Joel Weinstein of HTM Companies addressed what companies can learn from Boston’s Back Bay electrical fire, which caused a widespread power outage among Boston homes and businesses.
Chuck Wachter, director of Ameriprise Business Continuity Management, gave attendees some key tips for creating value from their business continuity exercises. The exercises were designed to help business executives and IT managers maximize recovery efforts in the event that their businesses experience a disaster.
Attendees found the seminars informative and reassuring. "It’s good to hear that all the hard work that we do to test our disaster plan annually can actually prove effective in an event like this one," said David Van Dyke of Winchester Co-operative Bank.
Northeast Utilities’ David Kaye said: "It was educational, with presentations on current topics and motivating speakers. I hope that this is an annual event."
Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with the event sponsors, including the Association of Contingency Planners, Comcast, InfraGard, Kohler Rental, Lightower Fiber Networks, NEDRIX, Turn-Key Engineering Inc. and XO Communications.
During the event, Thomasson announced the promotion of Fred Day to operations manager for Rentsys Recovery. Day oversees Rentsys Recovery’s Northeast-region Business Recovery Center (BRC), which recently underwent an upgrade to provide Rentsys Recovery clients with a new uninterruptible power supply, generator backup systems and access to additional colocation floor space.
Following the presentations, Rentsys Recovery opened up the BRC for event participants to see firsthand the results of the upgrades. Attendees also had the opportunity to tour one of Rentsys Recovery’s Mobile Recovery Centers.
"I feel it is very important to understand the capabilities of leading BC/DR vendors so I can improve our crisis management program," said Todd Bousquet of the Hanover Insurance Group. "With 2011 having more than its share of natural disasters and utility operational issues, rapid recovery is expected."
